Fitness Membership Terms and Conditions

1. Membership Categories

Memberships are designed to give you, the customer, the opportunity to pay for use of Edinburgh Leisure’s facilities by Direct Debit. To make any changes to your membership, please contact us via this form.

Edinburgh Leisure Memberships fall into different categories with varying degrees of accompanying benefits which are as follows:

1.1 Fitness Membership

As a Fitness member, you are entitled to access Gyms and Gym Classes, Pools and Swim Classes, Fitness Classes and Running Tracks across the Edinburgh Leisure estate which includes the following venues;

  • Balerno High School
  • Craiglockhart Leisure & Tennis Centre
  • Dalry Swim Centre
  • Drumbrae Leisure Centre
  • Edinburgh International Climbing Arena
  • Glenogle Swim Centre

  • Jack Kane Sports Centre
  • Kirkliston Leisure Centre
  • Leith Victoria Swim Centre
  • Meadowbank Sports Centre
  • Portobello Swim Centre

1.2 Gym Membership

As a Gym Member, you are entitled to access Gyms and Gym Classes across the Edinburgh Leisure estate which includes the following venues;

  • Ainslie Park Leisure Centre
  • Craiglockhart Leisure & Tennis Centre
  • Dalry Swim Centre
  • Drumbrae Leisure Centre
  • Edinburgh International Climbing Arena
  • Glenogle Swim Centre
  • Gracemount Leisure Centre
  • Jack Kane Sports Centre
  • Kirkliston Leisure Centre
  • Leith Victoria Swim Centre
  • Meadowbank Sports Centre
  • Portobello Swim Centre
  • Queensferry High Recreation Centre
  • Royal Commonwealth Pool
  • Warrender Swim Centre
  • Wester Hailes High School

As part of your Gym Membership, you have access to a range of Gym-based classes which can be found here: /activities/gym/gym-based-classes .

1.3 Swim Membership

As a Swim Member, you are entitled to access Swimming Pools and Swim Classes across the Edinburgh Leisure estate which includes the following venues;

  • Dalry Swim Centre
  • Drumbrae Leisure Centre
  • Glenogle Swim Centre
  • Gracemount Leisure Centre
  • Leith Victoria Swim Centre
  • Portobello Swim Centre

  • Royal Commonwealth Pool
  • Warrender Swim Centre
  • Wester Hailes High School
  • u are also entitled to use of the saunas and steam rooms at: (16s and over only)

  • Glenogle Swim Centre
  • Gracemount Leisure Centre

And use the Turkish Baths at: (16s and over only)

1.4 Fitness Class Membership

As a Fitness Class Member, you are entitled to access Fitness Classes across the Edinburgh Leisure estate at:

  • Drumbrae Leisure Centre

All Fitness Classes are outlined on the Edinburgh Leisure website here: /activities/fitness-classes.

Membership includes all fitness classes listed in the fitness class timetable. Restrictions apply for under 16s, please consult your local site for more details.

Your card will allow you to book fitness classes 8 days in venue in advance. 3 hours’ notice is required to cancel a class booking. Failure to cancel or failure to cancel within 3 hours’ notice will incur a charge on your next visit.

1.5 Climb Membership

This gives you access to the climbing wall, bouldering facilities, and fitness classes at EICA:Ratho. Climbers must be competent and complete a registration form before using the climbing facilities. All novice climbers must attend the Climb Start Up Course.

1.6 Climb & Fitness Membership

Gives access to the facilities detailed in 1.1 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5.

1.7 Joint Membership

This gives two customers the opportunity to jointly purchase memberships. One person will make the Direct Debit payments from their bank account. Each person will receive the same Membership Benefits. If the paying customer fails to make the monthly payment, both memberships will be withdrawn. All changes to Direct Debits must be made by the Direct Debit holder.

1.8 Junior Membership

Includes access to all the facilities detailed in section 1.6 and the golf courses detailed in section 1.14.

To qualify for a Junior Membership, you must be under 18.

Restrictions apply for under 16’s on gyms and fitness classes. Under 16s must be accredited through NRG Zone (included as part of the Junior Membership) before using the gyms by themselves and have completed a competency assessment before using the climbing facilities.

Juniors must be in S1 or above to enter the gym. Under 14s must be supervised by a registered competent climber who is over 18 when using the climbing facilities.

1.9 Young Adult Membership

To qualify for a Young Adult Membership, you must be aged between 18 and 24 years old. Proof of eligibility is required. Gives access to the facilities detailed in 1.1 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5.

1.10 Student Fitness Membership

To qualify for a Student Membership, you must present a current, valid matriculation card.

Student memberships allow for a discount up to 20% across the following memberships:

· Climb & Fitness

· Fitness

· Gym

· Fitness Class

· Swim

1.11 Over 65 Memberships

To qualify for an Over 65 Membership you must be aged 65 or over. Proof of eligibility is required.

Over 65 memberships allow for a discount up to 30% across the following memberships:

· Climb & Fitness

· Fitness

· Swim

1.12 Disability Membership

This entitles persons in receipt of the Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payment to a reduced price Fitness, Swim or Climb Membership. The reduction in price is represented as up to 50% discount on full Adult pricing.

1.13 Corporate Memberships

Corporate Memberships are available and offer a discount on full Adult Memberships. To find out more visit /join

1.14 Golf and Golf Bolt-on Membership

As a Golf Member, you are entitled to access Courses across the Edinburgh Leisure estate which includes the following sites;

  • Braid Hills
  • Silverknowes
  • Carrick Knowe
  • Craigentinny
  • Portobello
  • Wee Braids

Should you choose to cancel your primary membership, your Bolt-on Golf Membership will be automatically cancelled unless you have upgraded to a full Golf Membership.

You can add and remove this Bolt-on at any time.

1.15 Community Fitness Membership

This entitles you to use the gym and fitness classes at one site. Choose from Jack Kane Sports Centre or Kirkliston Leisure Centre.

1.16 Community Dalry Membership

This entitles you to use the gym, pool and Aquafit classes at Dalry Swim Centre.

1.17 Community Queensferry Membership

This entitles you to use the gym, pools and fitness classes at Queensferry High School.

1.18 Community Trinity Academy Sports Campus Membership

This entitles you to use all the facilities and activities at Trinity Academy Sports Campus.

1.19 Community Wester Hailes High School Membership

This entitles you to use all the facilities and activities at Wester Hailes High School.

1.20 Annual Membership

Memberships can be purchased by Direct Debit or on an annual basis. Annual Memberships allow you to pay for 12 months in a one-off payment and receive a 13th month of membership for free.

Your free month of membership will fall at the end of your annual term.

Should pricing change during your annual membership, your will not be liable for any additional charges or refunds should the cost be increased or decreased.


2. New Member Joining Fee

New members will be charged a joining fee to cover the membership’s administration.

The monthly Direct Debit amount will be subject to change at the discretion of Edinburgh Leisure. All members will be given 10 working days’ notice of any price change.

If your bank rejects your Direct Debit, Edinburgh Leisure will reapply again during the same month. If your membership remains unpaid 15 days after the payment due date Edinburgh Leisure will lapse your membership.


3. Promotional Activities

Promotions will be run on an ongoing basis across all Edinburgh Leisure centres. All promotions have a limited lifespan, limited availability and will be subject to specific terms and conditions.


4. Opening and Closing

All facilities will open and close as advertised. All facilities will be subject to closure for maintenance, public holidays, and special events. Edinburgh Leisure will give 14 days’ notice of any closure where possible.

There will be exceptional circumstances when a facility may close without notice. An alternative may be offered in this case.


5. Cancellations 

You can cancel your membership directly with Edinburgh Leisure. To do so, please use this form to advise of your membership cancellation request.

It is also advisable to cancel your Direct Debit with your bank. There is no cancellation fee. Should you cancel and rejoin you will be subject to another joining fee. Edinburgh Leisure reserves the right to withdraw your membership or any of the benefits without notice.

Customers must give 1 weeks’ notice of membership cancellation. Edinburgh Leisure have the following cut off dates for any membership changes.

6. Membership Freeze Option

Memberships can be frozen for a minimum of one month and a maximum of 6 months. Memberships can only be frozen from the 1st of the month and for whole months.

There are cut off dates approximately 5 working days before the due date of the Direct Debit. Early unfreeze is also possible. A pro rata payment will be charged on the day of the unfreeze. Membership freeze requests can be made using the following form. To unfreeze your membership, at any time, you can do so using this form.

7. Membership Benefits

You may, on occasion, be offered additional benefits as part of your membership. These will be at the discretion of Edinburgh Leisure and may be subject to change and limited by time, allocation or location.

8. Membership Responsibility

Members are responsible for their membership and updating of contact details. Data Protection options for Joint Members are based on the selections made by the payer. All members will require their photograph to be taken for security purposes.
