We offer a range of sports coaching lessons, led by qualified and experienced coaches.

Our coaching programmes help children to develop new skills, improve their agility and grow confidence.

Whether you're looking for a something for you or your child we have coaching and classes running across Edinburgh. If you just want to try something out or you're looking to hone your skills, you can take your pick from a range of different sports and activities.

Sunday 24th November 2024 at Meadowbank Sports Centre

Join us for the Annual Festive Display—a vibrant, non-competitive gymnastics event that brings together teams from our six gymnastics centres, regular clubs using our facilities, and special guests from clubs across Lothian.

This popular event draws large audiences eager to see gymnasts showcase their skills in a day filled with exciting routines performed by both teams and individuals. The Festive Display is a thrilling celebration of talent, giving Edinburgh Leisure gymnasts and visitors alike a fantastic opportunity to shine. And most importantly, it's a day packed with FUN for everyone!

Following the success of our past viewing sessions, we're delighted to be able to arrange for parents/guardians to come and view classes again this November and December.

Feedback shows that you've really enjoyed getting a glimpse into what your child is experiencing in class, and that these sessions have opened up more chances for you to connect with their teachers and coaches.

We’re working on an annual programme of viewing weeks, so if your child’s sport or venue isn’t included this time, don't worry—we’ll offer more sessions throughout the year.

Athletics

Our programme offers children from P1-P7 a wide variety of athletics events and techniques, and focuses on the FUNdamental movement skills, important in every child’s development. Tailored to suit children of all skill levels from beginners to competitors.

Aquatics

From toddlers to older adults, we aim to improve confidence in and out of the water, with an emphasis on fun and progression. Our swim teachers are fully accredited and follow the Scottish Swimming Learn to Swim Programme.

Badminton

Classes for children who are new to badminton and those who are wanting to improve their game, from P1 upwards

Basketball

From shooting to dribbling, lay ups to free throws: there’s plenty of fun to be had on the court. This fast-paced game is a great way to hone skill and accuracy.

Our new pathway currently on offer at Meadowbank Sports Centre and Ainslie Park Leisure Centre caters from 18 months to 9 years.

Boccia

Boccia is a target ball sport similar to bowls. Our boccia session is open to both adults and young people with sensory, physical and learning disabilities.

Climbing

We have indoor climbing courses for all levels of experience, from taster courses to dry tooling and lead climbing. We can take you outside to some of the best mountains in Scotland. We can even help you make a career out of climbing.

Dance

Dance classes can help sustain a young child's enthusiasm for movement and music. From ballet, highland dance to hip-hop and cheerleading, we have coaching to fit P1 to P7s.

Diving

Fancy yourself as a bit of a Tom Daley? Edinburgh Leisure is very proud to offer a fantastic diving pool at the Royal Commonwealth Pool, complete with a dedicated Dry Dive Area with trampolines and harnesses. Our diving programme follows the National Diving Award Scheme with classes to suit beginners right through to those at a competitive level.

Football

Starting from the age of 3 to P7 children in our classes will develop confidence, spatial awareness and teamwork. As they progress they'll put their skills, tactics and knowledge into practice playing the game they enjoy.

Gymnastics

Developing skills for life in strength, coordination, self confidence and body awareness. Gymnastics teaches the basics of floor and vaulting skills from Primary 1 upwards before progressing to a higher class.

Gym Nippers

Our Gym Nippers classes help to develop motor skills, balance and agility. Progress within these classes will be monitored against the Edinburgh Leisure class competencies and you can keep a track by signing up to our home portal.

Judo

Our full contact judo courses progress through a grading system and involve throwing and holding movements promoting coordination, flexibility, balance, strength and endurance, teaching children self-discipline.

Jump into Sport

Multi-Sport early years activities are the perfect introduction to sport and exercise. Try out a wide range of sports including athletics, tennis, football, gymnastics and more in a fun and social environment.

Netball

We can get you or your kids on the way to serving up aces through our extensive junior and adult coaching programme, running according to age and ability.

Tennis

We can get you or your kids on the way to serving up aces through our extensive junior and adult coaching programme, running according to age and ability.

Trampolining

For children who like to be airborne. Trampolining delivers balance, coordination, cardio fitness and self-confidence. Toddlers and bouncing are a natural combination so courses start at pre-school age.

Under 5s

Help your little one to get active, learn new skills and more importantly have fun! With coached activities including swimming, dancing, football, diving, trampolining and gymnastics there's something for every little one to get involved and get moving with us.

Training and Qualifications

Train as an accredited Swim or Dive Teacher or qualifiy as a climbing instructor. We offer an extensive range of training and qualification opportunities for all career stages.

If you have children in a coaching class you don’t have to wait around our venues. Any customer accompanying a child to their coaching class can visit the gym or pool whilst their child is in their class for a discounted price.
